The internet has changed the world in so many ways, giving us new forms of communication in the form of email and giving us new ways of finding and exchanging information around the world. However, another way in which it has changed things forever is in shopping. In the past the only way to carry out shopping was to visit the high street and buy items over the counter, or phone for items that you find in a catalogue. Online shopping has a lot in common with the latter except it has popularised the notion of shopping without leaving the home and meant that shopping can now be carried out with any two people needing to talk to each other.
One thing that people fear about online shopping is the risk of fraud. Many are still afraid that there are not enough security regulations governing the act. However, there are many ways of making sure the site you are buying items from is secure, for example many browsers display a locked pad lock in the corner of the window and often in the address bar, the beginning of the address will read https:// instead of http:// (with the added ‘s’).
Online shopping is proving more popular and more reliable and so it is likely to survive as a popular form of shopping far into the future.
